What makes us fat(ter), really? New research reveals it…
Here’s a quick question,
What do you think is the #1 cause of making people obese in our society nowadays?
- Processed foods
- Carbohydrates (especially the simple ones)
- Fats (trans and saturated ones)
- Breathing air
- All of the above
Do you have your answer?
Well, it shouldn’t be surprising at all that while most of the answers above are in some way, shape, or form correlated to the rise in obesity, there’s one that domains this tendency.
According to a recent study (Nov 3) from the University of Sydney, it’s processed foods the ones who are the ones to blame.
And to be honest, it’s not surprising (or groundbreaking) at all.
The thing is…
it might not be for the reasons you’re thinking.
This year-long study published in the journal Obesity studied the eating habits of 9,341 Australians to determine what’s really the issue here.
There are a lot of reasons processed foods should be minimized (note I don’t say avoided or eliminated — you can and probably will lose fat by eating your favorite food).
The real issue is whether we make most of our diet come from processed and refined foods.

But you don’t have to get the ebook to get the answer.
The study from the University of Sydney concluded that we crave protein (something known as the Protein Leverage Hypothesis).
So to compensate for this “need”, we end up eating more and more fats and carbs… especially, the ones that are readily available (AKA. fast food).
And since this type of food not only is caloric dense (you get a lot of calories from very few amounts), but it’s also quite addictive to the brain (try to eat only one cookie)…
It’s the perfect recipe to not feel full by eating an 800kcal burger.
So what do we do?
We want more (because we also tend to eat until we get satiated).
I explain why protein gives you that satiety effect as well in the guide, but the point is…
when we don’t consume (or prioritize, should I say) protein in our diets, we are very likely to consume way more than what we wanted.
And that’s how you gain weight.
So, how do we end this?
Of course, the answer is simple (but not that easy).
We need to become aware of how we eat so that we can start feeling full by eating less.
That’s the first step, of course.
But what goes underneath is having a system that uses evidence-based research to give you the best diet that’s for you (not a specific diet as the answer).
When we do this…
We will stop this trend of obesity and one day, reverse it (or at least flatten it).
